Prevention of Female
Thinning Hair
As noted in our discussion of
thinning hair in women, the female thinning hair problems range from mild cases to extreme situations requiring
specific treatment routines and perhaps even medical intervention. Thankfully only 2% of the female population requires such drastic
measures, and the rest of us can address this hair loss in women problem by some general preventative
measures.
Here are some prevention tips to help tackle your female thinning hair problem.
-
"Eat for your hair" since hair is made up of protein, it is very important to ensure that your daily
diet include foods rich in protein such as meat, fish, legumes and cheese. Dieticians recommend at
least 3 servings of protein per day. Your hair also requires minerals to be grow and be healthy, so
once again ensure that you get enough minerals, such as iron, (found in meat, fish, poultry). If your
eating habits are low in iron intake, then consider taking iron supplements.
-
"Be gentle with your hair" and avoid hair styles such as tight braids, cornrows or buns that put extra
stress on scalp resulting in hair loss and sometimes even causes scarring resulting in bald spots.
Along the same theme of being kind to your precious hair, avoid vigorously scrubbing your hair with
your fingernails, tearing at hair tangles with your comb, and if your hair is thinning on top, avoid
washing your hair in the shower where the water pounds down on the top of your head.
-
"Avoid chemical warfare" on your head! Some harsh chemicals used in perms and hot oil treatments for
hair may actually damage the hair follicles so badly that hair will not longer grow there. To
much switching from one hair product to another may also cause a negative reaction on your scalp
resulting in more hair loss.
Sadly for a small minority of the female population, their hair loss problems are too severe to be
prevented using just the prevention tips listed above. Next we will examine hair loss treatment for women to look at some possible solutions to more
drastic problems of thinning hair in women.
